Title: Proving Property Ownership through Inheritance and without Deeds
Post by: Louise-R on March 24, 2017, 01:30:42 PM
My husband inherited a property from his late father five years ago.  We live in England and the property is in Kolkata.  Unfortunately we have no evidence of ownership (we have no paperwork at all).  We have instructed a solicitor in Kolkata but all we have received is a diligence report giving some details of the flat (similar to a search report) and this is not certified by governmental authority.  They have told us that they are unable to trace the original register and can only get it illegally using speed money, which we are uncomfortable with.

We have tried instructing a couple of solicitors, spent quite a lot of money on this and have visited the city to try and speed things along.  We are struggling to get evidence of the original ownership so that we can transfer the ownership to us, to enable us to the property

Could anyone shed any light as to what we can do?

Thank you!

Hello,

I am from kolkata and I think you have been unnecessarily hackles by solicitor firms. Every document/ deeds are in registrar's office and not tracing out original registrar is just a silly excuse. I need to know where the property is located and some others details to initiate the process.
