This article examines the statutory framework of copyright punishment in India, judicial interpretation, and the practical struggle faced by creators in enforcing their rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"concept-and-object-of-copyright-law\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Concept_And_Object_Of_Copyright_Law\"><\/span>Concept And Object Of Copyright Law<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Copyright is a legal right granted to authors of original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works, as well as cinematograph films and sound recordings. In India, copyright protection is governed by the Copyright Act, 1957. The moment an original work is created and fixed in a tangible form, copyright automatically comes into existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"primary-objectives-of-copyright-law\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Primary_Objectives_Of_Copyright_Law\"><\/span>Primary Objectives Of Copyright Law<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To protect the economic and moral rights of creators;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To prevent unauthorised exploitation of creative works; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To encourage innovation, originality and cultural growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Copyright does not protect ideas in abstract form, but the expression of ideas. However, the law does not recognise \u201cease\u201d or \u201cignorance\u201d as valid defences.
