2025. It is India&#8217;s first free trade agreement with a bloc of developed European economies, covering all four EFTA states: Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-investment-commitment\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Investment_Commitment\"><\/span>Investment Commitment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EFTA states pledged <strong>a USD 100 billion<\/strong> investment into India over 15 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>USD 50 billion in the first 10 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>USD 50 billion in the following five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the first legally binding investment commitment in any Indian FTA, making it structurally unlike most Indian trade deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-investment-language\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Investment_Language\"><\/span>Investment Language<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The broader investment-climate provisions use terms like &#8220;endeavour&#8221; and &#8220;aim to&#8221; \u2014 closer to objectives than to unconditional guarantees. This provides sector-specific market-entry facilitation, helping with incorporation decisions, sector approvals, and government incentives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-sector-access\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sector_Access\"><\/span>Sector Access<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The services chapter is one of the most open India has committed to in any FTA:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India opened 105 service sub-sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Switzerland: 128 sub-sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Norway: 114 sub-sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Liechtenstein: 107 sub-sectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Iceland: 110 sub-sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This strengthens the case for incorporating locally in sectors like precision instruments, medical devices, financial services, and engineering goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-mutual-recognition-agreements\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mutual_Recognition_Agreements\"><\/span>Mutual Recognition Agreements<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TEPA includes MRAs in regulated professions such as chartered accountancy, nursing, and architecture. The binding investment pledge, the newly opened services sectors, the EFTA-Desk at Invest India, and the duty-free capital equipment provisions are real and usable advantages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But TEPA is a trade and investment-climate framework \u2014 not a company law shortcut.
