Eugenics, coined by Francis Galton in the early 20th century, began as a social engineering project rooted in the misapplication of Darwinian \u201csurvival of the fittest.\u201d Galton\u2019s vision of selective breeding was later radicalized by Nazi Germany into racial extermination, culminating in the Holocaust. Parallel movements in the United States and other nations institutionalized sterilization programs targeting the disabled, poor, and racial minorities, legitimized by pseudoscientific claims of hereditary determinism.<\/p>
