Among the themes highlighted were the so-called \u201cNaxal mindset&#8221;, women&#8217;s reservation, the participation of young people in electoral-roll preparation and the principle of \u201cNation First&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These issues deserve serious public discussion\u2014not merely political slogans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The central question is simple: <strong>Are we building an India in which citizens are free to question, institutions remain accountable and development reaches ordinary people?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-naxal-mindset-debate-and-the-right-to-dissent\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_%E2%80%9CNaxal_Mindset%E2%80%9D_Debate_and_the_Right_to_Dissent\"><\/span>The \u201cNaxal Mindset\u201d Debate and the Right to Dissent<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most contentious aspects of the discussion concerns the reference to a \u201cNaxal mindset&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The concern is not simply about the terminology. It is about the broader message that such language may send in a democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India is a country of enormous political, social and intellectual diversity. Students may disagree with the government. Academics may criticise public policy. Journalists may raise uncomfortable questions. Political opponents may challenge government decisions. Civil society organisations may protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">None of these activities should automatically be treated as hostility towards the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democracy is not merely the right to vote once every few years. It also includes the freedom to question those in power, express disagreement and participate in public debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commentary raises concerns about the functioning of institutions such as the Enforcement Directorate, the CBI and the Election Commission, as well as questions surrounding governors and vice-chancellors. The implementation mechanism is linked to delimitation and the publication of relevant figures following a census.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That makes the issue more complicated than simply passing a bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the broader democratic objective remains clear: <strong>women must have meaningful representation in India&#8217;s legislatures.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women&#8217;s empowerment cannot remain confined to speeches and political promises. It must translate into greater participation in decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, concerns about delimitation and the possible political consequences of constituency restructuring deserve transparent public discussion. Accurate electoral rolls are essential to a functioning democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the responsibility for maintaining electoral rolls ultimately rests with the institutions legally entrusted with that task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every eligible citizen should be able to register and exercise the right to vote without facing arbitrary exclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Errors in names, addresses or other voter details can have serious consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commentary therefore argues that young people should not become a substitute for an electoral administration that must itself be accurate, transparent and accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citizen participation can strengthen democracy, but institutional responsibility cannot be transferred to citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-nation-first-or-party-first\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CNation_First%E2%80%9D_or_%E2%80%9CParty_First%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>\u201cNation First\u201d or \u201cParty First\u201d?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Prime Minister&#8217;s message that the nation should come before personal interest is difficult to disagree with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The nation must come first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the principle should apply consistently to everyone\u2014including governments and political parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India has witnessed significant political realignments over the years. Elected representatives have changed political affiliations, parties have split and alliances have shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every such development raises an important democratic question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Is the decision being taken in the national interest or primarily in the interest of political power?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Constitution belongs to the people of India, not to any individual party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governments come and go. Political parties rise and fall. Leaders change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the Republic remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why \u201cNation First\u201d should mean constitutional institutions first, democratic accountability first and citizens first\u2014not simply the interests of whichever party happens to be in government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-india-s-development-from-announcements-to-outcomes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Indias_Development_From_Announcements_to_Outcomes\"><\/span>India&#8217;s Development: From Announcements to Outcomes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India has enormous economic potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The country has a young population, a large consumer market, ambitious entrepreneurs, talented professionals and a growing technological ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But aspirations must eventually translate into measurable outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commentary questions the progress of initiatives such as Smart Cities, Skill India, employment programmes, infrastructure development and the country&#8217;s ambition to become a global supplier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are legitimate areas for public scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A government should not be judged solely by the number of announcements it makes. It requires sustainable planning, environmental safeguards and transparent decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-artificial-intelligence-and-electric-vehicles-ambition-needs-infrastructure\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Artificial_Intelligence_and_Electric_Vehicles_Ambition_Needs_Infrastructure\"><\/span>Artificial Intelligence and Electric Vehicles: Ambition Needs Infrastructure<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India&#8217;s technological ambitions are impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and advanced digital infrastructure could transform the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But every technological revolution has a physical infrastructure behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Electric vehicles require electricity and charging infrastructure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI requires data centres, computing capacity and enormous amounts of energy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data centres can also require substantial water resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commentary therefore asks an important planning question: <strong>Does India have sufficient energy and water infrastructure to support the scale of technological expansion being contemplated?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not an argument against technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is an argument for responsible technology policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India should embrace AI and electric mobility\u2014but it should simultaneously invest in renewable energy, electricity transmission, water management, storage capacity and sustainable infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-a-nation-is-more-than-its-government\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Nation_Is_More_Than_Its_Government\"><\/span>A Nation Is More Than Its Government<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the most important principle is that the country belongs to its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that principle is accepted, then citizens must also be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Opposition must have a voice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must have a voice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Women must have a voice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academics must have a voice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Civil society must have a voice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young Indians must have a voice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A healthy democracy is not a one-way conversation in which the government speaks and citizens simply listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government must explain its decisions. Citizens must be able to question them. Opposition parties must be able to scrutinise them. Institutions must operate independently, and the media must be able to investigate matters of public importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the commentary puts it, <strong>\u201cDemocracy requires dialogue.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-after-twelve-years-citizens-deserve-an-honest-report-card\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" sufficiently?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is the state of public healthcare?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How are India&#8217;s environmental commitments being implemented?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is the country adequately prepared for the energy and water demands associated with AI and data centres?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These questions should not be viewed as an attempt to weaken India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the contrary, demanding better performance from the government is part of strengthening the Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commentary emphasises that India has enormous potential, including its young population, entrepreneurs, scientists, workers and democratic democratic meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Freedom means having the courage to speak.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freedom means being able to disagree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freedom means questioning authority.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Freedom means demanding accountability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And democracy means accepting that no political party owns the nation permanently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governments change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Political parties change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leaders change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>India remains.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Constitution remains the foundation of the Republic, and the people remain the ultimate source of democratic legitimacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-conclusion-india-needs-dialogue-accountability-and-cooperation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion_India_Needs_Dialogue_Accountability_and_Cooperation\"><\/span>Conclusion: India Needs Dialogue, Accountability and Cooperation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India&#8217;s future should not be reduced to a contest between political slogans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The country needs serious discussion about employment, women&#8217;s representation, institutional independence, healthcare, manufacturing, technology, the environment and democratic freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Citizens should participate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Governments should listen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opposition parties should question.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Institutions should remain independent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development should be inclusive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technology should serve society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic growth should create meaningful opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And environmental protection should remain a national priority.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India does not need a democracy in which one side speaks and the other remains silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It needs a democracy in which disagreement is respected, institutions are accountable and citizens feel that the country truly belongs to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ultimate measure of India&#8217;s progress should not merely be the promises made from the Red Fort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should be the everyday reality experienced by its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>India&#8217;s strength lies not in the unquestioned power of any government, but in the freedom, dignity and participation of its people.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us therefore build an India in which development and democracy move together\u2014and in which every citizen can genuinely feel proud to call India home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-related-links
