|Graduate School of Law - Aichi
Graduate School of Law: With its long-standing history of achievements, Aichi University has been sending out law specialists who can contribute to the local community.
Since its foundation in 1946, Aichi University, a private university in the Chubu area, has been sending out a large number of bar examination passers. Based on its long-standing history of achievements, Aichi University established the Graduate School of Law on the Kurumamichi Campus in 2004. This graduate course provides a substantial learning environment including thoroughgoing small-group education with systematic, intensive curricula in the aim of sending out legal professionals who can play leading roles in the field of law and contribute to the local community by providing high-quality services for the community. In fiscal 2007, the Program for Educational Promotion in Professional Graduate School of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology included local contribution activities promoted by the Graduate School of Law from the viewpoint of supporting crime victims (see note). This resulted in the realization of the training idea of the Graduate School of Law for legal professionals.
A tradition of fostering excellence
Aichi University was accredited under Japan’s old university system in 1946, making it the university with the oldest jurisprudence tradition in the Chubu region. By keeping its educational program closely tied to the needs of society at large, the Faculty of Law has graduated large numbers of talented professionals who have gone on to careers in law, economics, and government. Based on its long-standing history of achievements, Aichi University established the Graduate School of Law on the Kurumamichi Campus in 2004, since then the Graduate School of Law has sent out 36 graduates who passed Japan's new Bar Examination.
Fostering the “legal mind”
In addition to helping students develop an advanced knowledge of the law and the ability to solve legal questions, the Faculty seeks to impart a “legal mind” that allows students to think logically by linking facts and events and to discover justice by considering things from a variety of perspectives.
Offers three courses where students can learn systematically according to their interests and purposes
The Faculty of Law offers three courses so that each student can select the most suitable course according to their interest and purpose. These courses are ideal for those who aim to be a law specialist, play an active part in the administration by making use of their knowledge of law, or be a specialist for corporate legal affairs. The Faculty of Law prepares each subject systematically so that students can acquire knowledge precisely.
Improvements in Skills through Mock Trials and Debates
The regular curriculum includes open mock trials and inter-seminar debates. Students are expected to learn by experiencing the reality of the actual world, thus promoting the students motivation for more active learning.
How to Learn for Four Years
First-year students study the fundamentals of jurisprudence. Staring in their second year, students select from three course programs: Judicature, Administration, and Enterprise Law. This approach lets students prioritize and pursue their studies in a systematic way in accordance with their chosen career and interests.
[A curriculum attaching importance to expertise]
The merit of the Faculty of Law is that students can concentrate themselves on law and politics. First-year students study special subjects. The Faculty of Law helps students' practical and proactive ability to exercise law enforcement activities. More than half the credits required for graduation are on specialized subjects.
[Small Class Sizes]
The Faculty emphasizes small, seminar-type classes. Students build an ability to think logically and solve problems as they progress through introductory seminars in their first year, legal fundamentals seminars in their second year, and advanced seminars in their third and fourth years.
