The Sawmill Fire, sparked in Arizona in April 2017 during such a party, serves as a stark warning about the potential for these celebrations to escalate into tragedy.

On April 23, 2017, Dennis Dickey, a Border Patrol Agent, hosted a gender reveal party on Arizona state land near Tucson. Despite a "red flag" warning from the National Weather Service indicating high fire risk due to strong winds reaching 40 mph, Dickey proceeded to shoot a target filled with Tannerite, a legal but volatile substance popular for such events.
