Marriage and Immigration
« on: April 20, 2014, 02:03:42 AM »
Hi all,

I would appreciate it if someone could advice me on the following:

I am an Indian citizen (with Indian passport) and my would be wife is a British Citizen and her parents too are British Citizens (for the last 30 years). However, her parents were born in Pakistan. I have read the PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card related documents carefully and I believe my wife would be eligible for it, as she would be married to an Indian citizen. I know people who have held a Pakistani citizen or are born to Pakistani citizens are not eligible. Please, could someone confirm if she could be eligible? In case she is not, please let me know what other long-term visas she can apply for...as we are planning to settle in India permanently.

Thanks
Mohammad

Thank you very much for your reply. I am afraid some people think we might have a problem there in due to her Pakistani ancestry. They think that despite the fact she was born and brought up in the UK and her parents too are British citizens she will not get a permanent residence because her parents were born in Pakistan.

I am not even interested in citizenship. I just wish there was a permanent visa/residence she could get to stay in India with me, something like the PIO card.

We plan to settle in Kanpur (UP).

Could you kindly double check what the situation be like?

Any help will be appreciated.
