Legal Separation
« on: October 06, 2014, 03:17:07 AM »
I don't know whether this is the right section for my query. Pardon me, if its not.
I want to get legal separation from my father.
I know I can just walk out of the house and nobody can stop me, but the matter is a little more complicated than that.
I'll try to state the entire matter in a nutshell. I'm the youngest of four brothers (all married except me) & I have no sister. My father has a food products business & my brothers & I are involved in it. For some time now, there have been regular incidents indicating my father is not happy with me at all. Although, I could not find any probable reason for his strange & rude behavior. Lately, my brothers have also joined in and now everyone in the family is after me for some or the other reason. My best guess is one of my brothers (maybe all) might have conspired against me in some way & convinced my father about it. Now, I'm fed up with them and have decided to leave them & start fresh.
I don't want anything from my father, no part of the business, no money at all. Also, I was not made legally responsible for any of my father's business activities.
So, all I want is to take the initiative & get myself legally separated from my father & brothers. I don't want to leave any room or any possibility for them to trouble me or bother me in the future.
I know that my father can disown me by issuing a public notice in newspapers but persuading him will be a tricky task.
I want to know what can I do (all by myself) regarding this issue?

You already know what to do give a public notification in a daily news paper that you have legally and socially detached yourself from your family and that you no longer wish to be associated with your family henceforth.

by the way are you relinquishing your surname?

Just by giving a public notice in a newspaper, am I absolutely free from my family? I mean don't we need to follow any legal procedure or won't a lawyer be required for some or the other purpose?

I don't have any financial liabilities towards my father/family. Now, if I don't want to relinquish my surname, will that create any hassles in the separation process?
