I believe that my current employer has access to all my mobile phone lines, my email accounts, my FB and Linkedin accounts, and has bugged my personal car and house as well.
But, first, let me give you a background on my employment.
I am a female working professional with 10 years of experience in the software industry. Back in 2013 I left a US-based software company on filing a harassment complaint against my immediate manager with my skip level manager and HR. The HR at the time informed me that an investigation would be conducted and i would be informed about the status of the complaint. However, because of what I was going through, I decided to quit the organization instead of staying on till the investigation was completed.
The complaint was filed in February 2013, and I left that month itself. I never heard back from the HR.
I joined a US-based startup in March 2013. Everything was fine in the first month, but later I sensed I was being monitored closely. Everything I did on the work laptop, every phone call I made on my personal smart phone, all browsing on the phone, my Whatsapp, my FB account was being monitored. Initially I thought it was just my managers and given that employers are allowed to do this, I was quiet. But later I realised, that everyone else had access to my private life. All my colleagues.
During my tenure at this company, I happened to buy a second hand car, without realising they would have have access to my phone line. I bought a car from a not so well known dealer because they gave me a very good deal. 6 months into driving the car I realise that every conversation I have in the car with my friends is being relayed to folks at work. I tried my best to find the bug, I could not. Then I ordered a bug detector from shopclues.com and I was able to detect the RF signal from all the four headrests. I realised that to remove this, I will need to spend on a major overhaul of the car. So I left it as is and decided to be careful about what i say in the car.
Yet, no matter how many numbers I changed, and how many phones i changed, folks in my current company, the one I joined in Sept 2014, again a US based startup, have access to everything i say at home. I speak aloud to myself, or I have friends over, they seem to know every word.
I even bought a new laptop, hoping i would have some privacy, but a part of me believes that they might have access to my service provider, because when my current manager asked me for my internet provider, at a time when I did not believe she was going to do this, I told her.
So it seems like I have left the monitoring go on for too long without even being aware of why I am being monitored. Raising a flag at work about this will put me in the whistleblower process at work, and will mean that I will lose my job. Is there anything I can do to help myself without adding to the torment i am already suffering?
