Name Change after Marriage
« on: April 05, 2016, 04:12:39 AM »
My Name is "Sehrish". This is the full name mentioned on my Birth Certificate and Aadhaar card and school certificate of 10th class passed. I wish to add a surname to this. This will make my full name "Sehrish Mohammed".

Hence I wanted to know what will happen to the validity of the above documents once my name is changed??

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sehrish

You have to change your name by taking oath before the 1st Class Judicial Magistrate  followed by paper publication. Those documents will be valid in future also.

Dear Sir,

Name can be changed from the name change office after getting the publication in official gazette. Once name change formalities is complete, they issue a name change certificate, which can be used everywhere to change the name on the documents. You don't have change the name in all the documents.

Dear Sir,

The publication in official gazette is another procedure for name change. But after marriage, you don't need to go for a formal name change procedure. You can opt for the sur name change in the marriage registration certificate and for future purpose, you can use the changed name along with the marriage registration certificate.
