Name Affidavit
« on: April 28, 2016, 04:56:36 AM »
Hello,

My name is Priya Banerjee (M) and working in a Software organization. Though it should be spelled as Priyo instead of Priya. So can you please let me know about few points which I will be like to know:

1. Is it mandatory to change name in ID documents like Voter ID, Passport, PAN, Adhar after affidavit
2. If the same is required for all academic mark sheet / certificates (which is very tedious job) after affidavit
3. Will there be any Visa related problem in case of name affidavit (or during organization change).

In addition please briefly explain the procedure of name affidavit.

P.S. All my academic and ID docs contain name as Priya Banerjee. Only my Voter card contains name as Priyo Banerjee (that was by mistake)

Dear Priya,

If you wish to go for a name change then there is a complete procedure to do the same. You have to get the publication done after filing the relevant forms in the official gazette. Please find out the office of name change, which is there in every district or place. You can only get the name change from the concerned office. Once you get the name change formalities complete then you may apply for change in name at other places like voter id cards, passport etc.

Dear Priya,

YOu don't have to change the academic documents after completing the name change process. You will be given a certificate of name change from the name change office after completion of process of name change. you can carry this certificate and this will help you everywhere. with regard to visa problems, you may get the name change on the passport after you complete the process. Once the name is changed int he passport, you may not have any problem in visa i think.

Best and simple way to correct your name is to go for Affidavit before the 1st class judicial magistrate. If you are from Kolkata then go for 1st class magistrate. Try to avoid executive and notary affidavit which is lesser value. After that go for paper publication at local newpaper.

CERTIFICATE will not be changed but it will be treated as corrected one.
