Property purchased from my dowry money in in laws name
« on: May 09, 2016, 05:07:59 AM »
I am a widow of defense personnel. My husband brought a land from my dowry money in the name of his mother. Now he has passed away and his mother want to divide it among all three sons.Since it is brought by money and I sacrificed a lot in initial days to build the house over it, I don't want to share the land,Please advice.

If it is considered streedhan, how can I prove that property is brought of my dowry money as I don't have evidence and in 1980s people didn't used to keep record as it wasn't a criminal offence to seek dowry then

Dear Ma'am.

You can file a suit for declaration declaring that the property be declared as yours for the reason that the same was purchased from the dowry money given to your in-laws and husband. You need to prove before the court about the source of money and from where it came and how it was purchased. If you don't have any evidence then it may not be possible to become successful in the suit, however you can drag the case for years. If you have a good luck then it may get settled in due course of time and you may get a better share than what is being offered to you now. There is no other option.
