Hi,

I (the guy) am currently living abroad and the girl is currently living in India. We are planning to get married in February in Kolkata, West Bengal. So in preparation of the marriage certificate, I downloaded the marriage registration form, duly signed it and sent it to my wife-to-be along with other required documents. She then signed it as well and sent it to Kolkata to my parents.

However the marriage registrar looking at my current address in passport (which is an abroad address) is saying that this cannot be accepted. As I am the domicile (my address proof is Kolkata's), I need to be physically present for the documents to be acceptable. And further I need to be physically present again after a month.

Is this true? We are just looking for a way to have our marriage certificate at the soonest when we get married.

Thanks.

It is very pleasant to see when a person talking about Kolkata in a post as I am also from Kolkata. Let me tell you, it is not possible to get your marriage registered without your presence nor it can be applied. If Registrar indulge anyone to apply for Marriage Registration without presence of either spouse then such Marriage Registrar is doing fraudulent Act and same marriage will be null and void.

It is better you come to kolkata and apply jointly before Marriage Registrar and after expiry of 30 days you can register your marriage within next 60 days

Dear Sir,

If you are hindu and wants to register your marriage after performance of marriage as per hindu rites and ceremony then its possible to complete within a week.

If you are looking for marriage under special marriage act, then its not possible. For both the procedure, you have to present in person before the registrar of marriage.
