cancellation of wedding
« on: January 17, 2017, 05:31:27 AM »
Hi,
My son is an Australian citizen. I arranged for his marriage in India through a matrimony portal. My husband and me have not met the girl and her family yet. The girl and my son chats regularly on skype and whatsapp. The girl's family invited my son to India in one of their family wedding. My son visited India to see the girl. He liked the girl and we proceeded with the marriage proposal. Also we took a date for registration of marriage in Australia and the girl's parent are supposed to visit Australia.Ever since the girl's mother started dictating me and misbehaving with me over phone. When there is a death in our family and we told them the marriage needs to be cancelled this year they started forcing us for the marriage stating their booking money will be wasted. Also the parents forcing for Australian registered marriage as her Australian visa will get delayed.
Now I have realised the girl's parents are only worried about her Australian visa and not anything else.
Moreover, the parents have enquired my son about our property details like under whose name is the house we live in Australia etc.
I have a feeling that the girl's parents are only concerned about our property and their Australian visa.
I want to cancel the wedding proposal now. Is there any legal consequences for that? I have no idea how it works in India. Can the girl's family go for any legal implications as I get to here lot of people are in to scams through matrimony sites like extract money etc.
Your reply will be appreciated.

You are so lucky that you have understood what you were getting into before the wedding.
you son's life would have been hellish.

There is no law with prohibits anyone from breaking a marriage proposal. you are free to do that.

No worries, if they have to make false complaints let them do. no court in India can force your soon to marry that girl.

Please send a polite email cancelling the marriage giving some logical reasons that there has been long and continuous repeated mis-understanding between your son and girl. Please do not say anything about their greed of property or anything else as stated aforesaid. Please do request them to cancel all the bookings etc and return if any article or anything given by them and also request them to return the same.
