ECS through credit card
« on: February 24, 2017, 12:43:25 AM »
My credit card company sent me a letter stating my card account will be automatically debited for landline bill payment. If I want to stop the service, I need to reply them.

Since I was busy in my work I didn't see the letter. By the time I saw the letter, the debit date had passed by. Also my bank is already authorised to debit my account for the landline bill.

Does credit card companies have the authority to charge ECS without my consent orally or in written?

Without your consent bank cannot activate any ECS. But make sure that you have not blindly signed any documents (which we generally do) authorising the bank to activate ECS.

It is better to act right now before it is too late. Send a letter to Credit Card Company and request them to cancel out the ECS system as you have not given any consent in that aspect and also ask them to reply you in written for cancel out. Bank is bound to stop the same if any further amount deducted then on that event you can file consumer case after giving them one opportunity to refund the debited amount.
